Houston clips Purdue in Sweet 16 on Milos Uzan’s last-second layup

Houston is in the Elite 8 for the second time in eight seasons.
The Cougars got the better of Purdue in their Sweet 16 matchup on Friday, as Milos Uzan drained a go-ahead layup with .8 seconds to go to lead his team to a 62-60 win at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
With the game tied at 60, the Cougars drew up a perfect play out of a timeout, leaving the Boilermakers a step behind as Uzan put his shot home with less than a second remaining.
Here’s how it happened:
Houston led by as much as 10, 56-46, with just under 8 minutes to go in regulation before the Boilermakers came back to tie the game at 60 on a Camden Heide three-pointer. That eventually led to the heroics of Uzan, who finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and 6-of-9 from three-point range.
For the Boilermakers, it’s a disappointing postseason defeat for a group looking to not only make it to a second straight national championship game, but win it altogether. Matt Painter’s team knocked out 13th-seeded High Point and 12th-seeded McNeese en route to Friday’s contest against the Cougars, but met their match on Friday in a de facto home game in Indy — just over an hour from West Lafayette.
Houston, meanwhile, is a step closer to its first-ever national championship. The Cougars move on to face Tennessee on Sunday in the Elite 8.
