Hugh Freeze is in the midst of spring football practice with Auburn, but he took some time Friday night to make the drive to Atlanta to watch the Tigers men’s basketball team face Michigan in the Sweet 16.
“Y’all know my routine. I go to bed at 8:30 and I get up about 4:30 or 5. Coach Bruce Pearl kind of kept me up late last night. Had to go over and watch Auburn do their thing. Got back about 1:30,” Freeze told his players on Saturday.
And, of course, the Tigers picked up the win, earning the right to play Michigan State in the Elite Eight.
“Coach Pearl, congratuations to you guys, man,” Freeze said. “War Eagle, baby. You’re representing us well.”
We’ll see if Auburn can keep things rolling for at least one more game as a trip to the Final Four is on the line. Its last trip, and thus far only trip, there was in 2019.
That year, the Tigers lost to Virginia 63-62. After beating Alabama State, Creighton, and now Michigan, they’ll look to get one step closer to the program’s first-ever national championship with a win over the Spartans at State Farm Arena on Sunday.
