Jai Lucas is currently an assistant coach under Jon Scheyer on a Duke team, but his name has been on the rumor mill over the last few weeks that he would become the next head coach at Miami. All parties have been mum on the situation when it is brought up, but now according to reports, the deal is officially done.

This has been the expected move for some time, and when Scheyer was asked about it last month, he had this to say.

Absolutely he’s a head coach, no question about it,” Scheyer told reporters. “It’s part of why I hired him. The job he has done for us is incredible. I can tell you, 100 percent, Jai is an amazing coach. He’s been great for these guys. We’ll continue to move forward together and figure that all out. But, he’s terrific man. All across the board, he is great.

Lucas has been an assistant at Duke since 2022, but he has also spent time at Kentucky and Texas. At Duke, he has been instrumental when it comes to recruiting. He played a huge role in signing Duke’s 2024 No. 1 class led by Cooper Flagg. He has also been key in helping Duke get commitments for the Boozer twins.

A formal announcement is expected on Thursday morning, and he is expected to leave at the conclusion of the regular season and head to Miami.
