Jay Bilas is one of the premiere voices in all of college basketball, and he isn’t scared to let his opinion be known on many different things during the college basketball season. One topic that has Bilas fired up is the reports that came out that McNeese coach Will Wade would be taking the job at NC State after the tournament.
McNeese takes on Clemson on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and a lot of the talk since that announcement has been about his new job, and not his current team. Bilas took to social media to talk about how often in college sports people complain about “tampering” with players, but not with coaches.
“Remember, the Coaches’ Portal is always open,” Bilas posted on X. “Funny how nobody complains about “loyalty” or “tampering”. That’s reserved for players only.”
The new college basketball era has forced many things to change over the last couple of seasons, and hiring coaches as soon as possible is something schools have to do. Just last month, Duke assistant Jai Lucas was hired by Miami. In the old days, he would have stayed with his team until the season ended. Instead, Lucas had to leave after the regular season finale against North Carolina to get things started at Miami.
The reports of Wade being the new coach at NC State is just another example of how things are changing in college basketball.
