Kentucky lands transfer pledge from former Tulane wing Kam Williams

Kentucky scored a win on the recruiting trail Friday, just hours before taking on Tennessee in the Sweet 16.
According to multiple reports, former Tulane wing Cam Williams has committed to Mark Pope and the Wildcats. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony first reported the news. Williams, a 6-foot-8 freshman, was viewed as one of the top available shooters in the portal.
A former 3-star recruit in the industry-generated 247 Composite, Williams committed to Tulane out of Lafayette (La.) Christian Academy. His Division I options were limited, but it quickly became clear Tulane had a gem on its hands. In his first career start on Nov. 22, Williams scored 19 points while making 7 of his 11 shots and 4 of his 7 triples.
Williams came off the bench in his first 5 games before starting each of the next 28. In 32.4 minutes a night, he averaged 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. He shot 48.5% from the field and 41.2% from 3 on 4.6 triples per game.
He scored a career-high 24 points on March 9 against UAB. He closed out his freshman season with 14 double-digit scoring performances. He made multiple 3s in a game 19 times.
“My dream is to play in the NBA,” Williams told Givony. “Kentucky‘s culture and background shows that they care about their players, especially developing them into the best players they can be.”
According to Givony, Williams initially considered putting his name into the 2025 NBA Draft class. Instead, he’ll wait a year and look to impress scouts under the bright lights of Rupp Arena.
It’s a huge win for Pope, who is going to need to rebuild his rotation this offseason. Amari Williams, Andrew Carr, Lamont Butler, Jaxson Robinson, Koby Brea, and Ansley Almonor are all set to graduate after the year.
But Kentucky also isn’t quite ready to turn its attention to next season’s team yet. The Wildcats face 2-seed Tennessee on Friday in the Sweet 16. Tipoff is set for 7:39 p.m. ET on TBS. Kentucky, a 4.5-point underdog via ESPN Bet, is looking for its first Elite Eight appearance since 2019.
