Lamont Butler hit what will go down as one of the best shots in program history. San Diego State will play for a national championship in men’s college basketball.

The 5th-seeded Aztecs — a team that hadn’t made it out of the 1st round in an NCAA Tournament since 2014-15 — pulled off a 14-point comeback to stun 9-seed Florida Atlantic at the buzzer. Butler buried a mid-range pull-up as the final buzzer sounded to give SDSU a 72-71 win and a spot in the national title game.

Butler had 7 points and just 5 shot attempts on the evening prior to his game-winner.

The 14-point deficit marked the 5th-largest comeback in Final Four history. Coach Brian Butcher said immediately after the game he “ran out of plays” so chose not to call a timeout and let his team run after securing a rebound with less than 10 seconds on the clock.

Butler looked to drive baseline but was cut off, retreated, rose, and splashed what will go down as one of the biggest shots in program history.
