Mark Pope shared some good news regarding Kentucky guard Lamont Butler on Sunday ahead of the NCAA Tournament.

Butler will be available for Kentucky’s opening-round game next week, Pope said. Butler aggravated his shoulder in Kentucky’s win over Oklahoma in the SEC Tournament a few days ago. He did not play in Kentucky’s loss to Alabama on Friday due to the injury.

This is great news for Kentucky as Butler is a key piece of what the Wildcats do offensively. He’s averaging 11.5 points and 4.3 assists per game this season.

It’s also slightly unexpected as Pope seemed highly-concerned about Butler’s status when talking to reporters after the Oklahoma game earlier in the week. Butler has been in and out of the lineup this year due to injuries. He’s missed 9 full games already this year, but Kentucky will hope that he can be healthy enough to participate for all of the NCAA Tournament.

Kentucky will learn its March Madness seed when the bracket is revealed at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday evening.
