Mark Sears sets all-time Alabama program record in win over Robert Morris
Mark Sears made history on Friday in Alabama’s 90-81 win over Robert Morris.
With the victory, Sears set a new program record for NCAA wins in a career. Alabama confirmed the record on Friday afternoon:
Sears has been at Alabama for the past 3 seasons. He’s started all 108 games of his Alabama career and has led the Crimson Tide to 82 total wins so far. As for March Madness, Sears now has 7 wins in the NCAA Tournament.
Sears played a big part in Alabama’s win over Robert Morris on Friday. He scored 22 points and dished out 10 assists in the win and helped the Tide overcome a brief second-half deficit. After the game, Sears talked about Alabama’s “resiliency” after falling behind by 1 point with just over 7 minutes remaining.
Amongst Sears’ other accomplishments in Tuscaloosa, he also led the program to its first-ever Final Four last March. The Crimson Tide will be hoping to get back to that stage in a few weeks.
But first, Sears and Alabama will take on Saint Mary’s in the Round of 32 on Sunday. A win would mean 3 straight Sweet 16 appearances for Sears and the Tide. Before Sears arrived on campus in Tuscaloosa prior to the 2022-23 season, Alabama basketball had just 2 Sweet 16 trips in the 21st century.
