Mark Sears talks up Alabama’s ‘resiliency’ after upset scare vs. Robert Morris
Mark Sears spoke with reporters after Alabama’s 90-81 win over Robert Morris on Friday afternoon.
The Crimson Tide were heavy favorites in this game, but it ended up being closer-than-anticipated. Robert Morris even took the lead midway through the 2nd half before Grant Nelson came into the game for Alabama and swung the momentum back on the Tide’s favor.
Sears said he felt Alabama showed “resiliency” in getting back on track in the 2nd half.
“Honestly when were down by 1, that’s when the fun really started,” Sears said. “As a competitor, you can talk when you’re up, but the real ones talk when they’re down. That just showed our resiliency.”
Alabama struggled in a couple of key areas against Robert Morris: rebounding and turnovers. The Tide have often survived a poor turnover margin this season, but the rebounding problem was somewhat-alarming for an Alabama team that was solid on the glass for much of the 2024-25 season. Robert Morris ended up winning the rebounding battle 39-37 against Alabama.
Alabama was able to prevail thanks to a strong offensive game where it shot 59% from the field. After falling behind 65-64 with 7:10 remaining, Alabama went on a 15-3 run to take control of the game.
Alabama will play again on Sunday for a spot in the Sweet 16.
