McNeese manager Amir Khan goes viral during NCAA Tournament win over Clemson

McNeese made some beautiful history, because not many Southland Conference teams break through and win NCAA Tournament games, let alone against ACC teams.

But the Cowboys pulled it off on Thursday, holding off a furious rally by Clemson in a 69-67 victory that sent them into the second round of the Midwest Region against No. 4 seed Purdue. That was all great enough for a program like McNeese, but there was more.

A lot more.

While the Cowboys were becoming basketball legends on the floor, student manager Amir Khan was becoming legendary in his own right. He’s officially become a viral sensation, and that was even before McNeese pulled off the stunning upset in Providence.

Khan led the Cowboys out on the floor on Thursday afternoon to NBA YoungBoy, and, naturally, he could be seen singing the words in full rap mode. The song and a little of Khan’s magic touch had the perfect effect, as McNeese shot out of the gates in taking a ridiculous 31-13 halftime lead on the favored Tigers.

But, of course, there was more. McNeese’s cheerleaders were wearing Amir Khan-branded socks, because of course all student managers have this kind of effect on their players and cheerleaders. Khan’s folk hero status could be seen everywhere, and he was even caught hamming it up with fans in the stands.

Then there is the Insomnia Cookies NIL deal, a BWW NIL deal and the proclamation that he’s America’s Manager. After Thursday, can anyone really doubt this?

And just remember, McNeese has another game on Saturday, so that gives America at least 2 more days to soak up the insanity that is Khan’s essence.
