Oklahoma and Porter Moser had a solid 2024-25 season, as the Sooners made it to the NCAA Tournament before losing to UConn in a very competitive first round game.

Nearly every team in college basketball right now is looking to improve their team through the portal. Whether that means keeping a player, or bringing in someone from a different school, teams are attacking the portal in many different ways.

On Monday, college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported that the Moser is expected to hire St. Joseph’s Associate HC Justin Scott as an assistant. Not only is Scott expected to be in Norman, but the Sooners are also now the favorite for Xzayvier Brown, who had a tremendous season last year for the Hawks.

In addition to coaching Brown at St. Joe’s, Scott is also Brown’s stepfather. Brown last season averaged 17.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG and 4.3 APG for St. Joe’s, and he should help the Sooners make up for the loss of star guard Jeremiah Fears.

The SEC is coming off a season where the conference sent 14 teams to the NCAA Tournament, which is the most ever for any conference.

To stay competitive in the SEC, Moser knows he is going to have to do a very good job in the portal, and he is doing just that. Oklahoma has already brought in Nijel Pack and Tae Davis, both guys who are capable of being difference-makers next season.
