Ole Miss AD says Rebels looking to ban fans who caused $500K fine

Ole Miss AD Keith Carter was not pleased with Rebel fans after the program received a $500,000 fine from the SEC on Friday.
While announcing the fine, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said in his statement that the “vast majority” of Ole Miss fans followed new guidelines of waiting for the opposing team to exit the court before celebrating the top-10 upset. But the “small number of fans” who created the problem still resulted in a 3rd violation of the SEC’s access to competition area policy.
Following the fine, Carter put out his own statement and took aim at the fans who failed to follow new guidelines. He praised Wednesday night as a “momentous night” but one that was “marred by the unacceptable behavior of a select few in our fanbase.” Those actions were described as “selfish” for costing the program “valuable resources.”
As for actions to try and end the behavior, Carter says Ole Miss is reviewing end-of-game footage to try and identify individuals who stormed the court. Individuals identified could face a potential ban from future contests.
Here is that key snippet from Carter’s statement:
Our staff is currently reviewing postgame footage from Wednesday, and any individuals who are idenitifed will face the potential loss of game privileges. Entering the playing surface without permission is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. Penalties will be increased moving forward, including holding perpetrators on the court or field and revoking their game privileges on site. We are also exploring other avenues to hold thsoe that break the rules accountable. Simply put, this must stop.
