My Picks for Tonight’s SEC Basketball
DJ Wagner, Kentucky: Higher than 11.5 points
The talented Kentucky freshman has been heating up lately. He’s scored 18, 7, 18, 16, 14 and 14 points in his last 6 games. For those keeping score at home, that’s 5 of his last 6 outings where he’s had 12+ points. The lone game where he didn’t score at least 12 points, he went up against a Mississippi State team that boasts the nation’s No. 15 overall defense, per KenPom. South Carolina ranks No. 65 by that same metric, so I’ll take Wagner to go off for 12+ points for the sixth time in his last 7 games tonight.
BJ Mack, South Carolina: Lower than 1.5 3-pointers made
Mack went off on Saturday at Arkansas, going 3-for-4 from long range. But, on the season, he’s only shooting the deep ball at 32.1%. In his 4 games prior to Arkansas, he was 1-for-6, 1-for-5, 1-for-4 and 0-for-3 from 3-point range. I like him to come back down to earth a bit tonight with Kentucky’s ability to throw several long, athletic perimeter defenders at him. If Mack does damage against the Wildcats, expect it to be from inside the arc.
Wade Taylor IV, Texas A&M: More than 22.5 Points
Taylor has been one of the best scorers in the SEC this year. Alabama’s Mark Sears leads the way, averaging 19.8 points per game. Taylor is right behind him, tied for second in the SEC with Kentucky’s Antonio Reeves at 19.5 points per contest. Mizzou’s defense has been horrible this year, checking in at No. 156 in the KenPom rankings. Taylor has scored 41, 31 and 23 points in his 3 best SEC outings this season. He should be able to score at will against the Tigers tonight, so I’ll pick him for 23+ points in a big win for the Aggies.
How Many Picks Should You Make?
A 3-picks entry with the picks I detailed above features a 5x multiplier. Thus, a $5 entry fee would earn $25 if all 3 picks are correct. Here’s a look at my contest on PrizePicks:
If you want to play it safer, you can make 2 picks for a 3x multiplier. If you’re feeling bold, you can make up to 6 picks and earn a multiplier of up to 25x!
Just make sure you get your picks in before tipoff on Tuesday night so you can enjoy the fun SEC men’s basketball action!
