Another full weekend of SEC basketball is in the books, and Alabama remains on top in the conference standings.

The Crimson Tide faced all it could handle at Georgia in midweek action. Back home, Nate Oats’ team posted a blowout win over Mississippi State to sweep the week. There weren’t a lot of teams with 2-0 weeks, but South Carolina and Auburn produced sweeps to stay just behind the Crimson Tide.

South Carolina followed up its upset of No. 5 Tennessee in Knoxville by taking care of business at Georgia on Saturday for a 72-62 victory. Lamont Paris’ Gamecocks have made a strong case to be ranked in the AP Top 25 with their strong start to the season that has taken the SEC and the rest of the college basketball world by surprise.

After an 0-2 week, Auburn bounced back with wins over Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 16. All eyes are on The Plains on Wednesday as the latest round of the Iron Bowl of Basketball has two of the conference’s top teams. Bruce Pearl’s squad will then travel to take on a Florida team fighting to improve its NCAA Tournament resume.

Here’s a look at the latest standings:

  • Alabama – 8-1 SEC (16-6 overall)
  • South Carolina – 7-2 (19-3)
  • Auburn – 7-2 (18-4)
  • Tennessee – 6-2 (16-5)
  • Ole Miss – 5-4 (18-4)

  • Arkansas – 2-7 (11-11)
  • Vanderbilt – 1-7 (6-15)

Next Saturday won’t be the usual full slate of conference contests. No. 10 Kentucky is taking a break from SEC action, facing Gonzaga. Ole Miss is off Saturday between road games, traveling to South Carolina on Feb. 6 and then to Kentucky on Feb. 13.
