Rick Barnes is looking for a key replacement for star guard Chaz Lanier as Tennessee gears up for the 2025-26 season. On Tuesday, the Vols landed a potential piece toward that end.

The player is Amaree Abram, a 6-foot-4 guard who spent this past season starring for Louisiana Tech in Conference USA. Joe Tipton with On3 Sports reported the news of Abram heading to Knoxville.

Abram actually began his career in the SEC, spending his freshman season at Ole Miss during the 2022-23 season. He appeared in 33 games and averaged 8 points per game before spending the 2023-24 season at Georgia Tech.

This past season, Abram started all 32 games for LT and finished as the 2nd-leading scorer for the Bulldogs at 12.3 points per game. He also averaged 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 37.3% from 3-point range.

Replacing Lanier is no easy task after he led the Vols and was the 6th-leading scorer in the SEC at 18 points per game. He was also an elite shooter from deep at 39.5% from 3-point range for Tennessee. Abram likely slides into that role for the time being, but Tennessee will need to maximize his skill set to get the most out of the team’s potential next season.

Overall, Abram is a 3rd transfer piece for the Vols, joining point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie (Maryland) and big man Jaylen Carey (Vanderbilt).
