Texas A&M guard Wade Taylor IV had a night to remember on Tuesday.
First, he scored 15 points as he helped the Aggies to an 83-72 win over No. 1 Auburn on senior night. It was also A&M’s 1st-ever victory over an AP No. 1 team in program history. Then, after the game was over, A&M raised Taylor’s jersey to the rafters.
Here’s a clip of Taylor’s jersey reveal in the rafters:
Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams also gave an emotional speech as the program recognized Taylor’s impact over the last 4 seasons. Here’s a clip from that speech:
Texas A&M doesn’t formally “retire” jersey numbers, so Taylor’s No. 4 could some day be worn again by someone in the Aggie program. But this is still a tremendous honor for Taylor, as he becomes just the 2nd men’s basketball player all-time to have their jersey honored at Reed Arena. The other is Acie Law, who played for A&M from 2003-07 and earned All-America honors as a senior.
Taylor isn’t on pace to make an All-America team this season, but he could lead the Aggies to a deep March Madness run before this season is over. A&M has never made it beyond the Sweet 16 in program history.
Taylor and the Aggies will close out the regular season on Saturday against LSU.
