Texas Tech is on a special run, as the Red Raiders came back from 16 down against Arkansas to defeat the Razorbacks, 85-83, in overtime to advance to the Elite Eight. Darrion Williams made a game-winning shot with 7 seconds left, and the Red Raiders were able to get a stop on the other end.
Making the feat even more impressive is the fact that they were missing their best shooter, Chance McMillian. On the season, McMillian is averaging 14.2 PPG and 4.1 RPG, while shooting 43.4% from the 3-point line.
In the Big 12 Tournament against Baylor, McMillian played only 13 minutes and suffered an oblique injury. He has missed all 3 games in the NCAA Tournament, but there was some hope heading into that game against Arkansas. However, he wasn’t able to go and Red Raiders coach Grant McCasland said the team is still unsure if he will give it a go against Florida with the Final Four up for grabs.
“No change in regard to how we’re approaching it,” McCasland said. “We’ll get him out there at shoot-around in a few minutes and see how his body responds, and give him the opportunity if he wants to compete and see what he can tolerate. And hopefully we’ll get him back in some way. But it’s hard to say until we get closer to game time and he warms up and see how he feels.”
Texas Tech has been able to advance without him, but if he is unable to go, then that will put more on the shoulders of J.T. Toppin (18.2 PPG and 9.3 RPG) and Williams (14.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG and 3.7 APG).
Tip-off between Florida and Texas Tech will be at 6:09 p.m. ET, with the winner advancing to the Final Four.
