Thomas Haugh had the type of game players dream of when they are growing up during Florida’s 84-79 Elite 8 victory against Texas Tech. He finished the game with 20 points and 11 rebounds while hitting some monster 3-pointers late in the game to help the team erase a 10-point deficit.
After the game, Haugh was talking to CBS sideline reporter Lauren Shehadi. During that time, he could have used it to talk about his incredible game, but he gave a perfect shoutout to his fellow Florida teammate, Walter Clayton Jr.
“This team is so special, super special and I am honored to be a part of it,” Haugh said after the game. “This is a cold man right here (pointing to Clayton), this is a cold man.”
Clayton etched his name into the Florida record books as he led the team with 30 points in the win. He became the first player in Florida basketball history with multiple career games of 30+ points in the NCAA Tournament. There has been only one other Florida player to ever score 30 in a game, with KeVaughn Allen scoring 35 points against Wisconsin in 2017.
With the win, Haugh and the Gators are heading back to the Final Four for the first time since 2014, and they will take on the winner of the Michigan State and Auburn game.
