My Picks for Tonight’s SEC Men’s Basketball
Russel Tchewa, Georgia: Higher than 7.5 rebounds
Tchewa, a 7-footer who transferred in from USF for this season, has been a machine on the glass in his last 3 outings. He has had 11, 11 and 9 boards in those games, and is clearly gaining confidence for the Bulldogs as he grows into a larger role for the team. Alabama is the third-best rebounding team in the SEC, but the Tide haven’t faced a ton of rebounders like Tchewa. He’s hot as of late and I think he’s good for at least 8 boards tonight when Alabama pays a visit to Athens. This will be a tough test for Alabama, as the Bulldogs are playing some solid basketball this year under second-year coach Mike White.
DJ Wagner, Kentucky: Lower than 18.5 points+rebounds+assists
Wagner had a hot stretch of games, but has since cooled off a bit as the star Kentucky freshman perhaps hit a bit of a wall. The SEC season is a grind for anyone, but freshmen sometimes take a while to adjust. In his last 2 games, at Arkansas and at South Carolina, Wagner has posted 12 and 7 points+rebounds+assists, respectively. Yes, he returns home to the friendly confines of Rupp Arena tonight to take on the Gators, but I think his struggles will continue for 1 more outing. I like him to get close to this number, but ultimately come up short.
Tyrin Lawrence, Vanderbilt: Higher than 14.5 points
In his last 3 games, Lawrence has scored 21 points against Tennessee, 16 points against Mississippi State and 15 points against Auburn. Those defenses are ranked No. 2 (Tennessee), No. 3 (Auburn) and No. 18 (Mississippi State) according to KenPom.com. Basically, Lawrence can score against even the toughest defenses Vanderbilt faces. Does this lead to wins for the Commodores? It does not. But that’s not what DFS is about. We just need Lawrence to post 15+ points against Auburn once again tonight, and I think he’s more than capable of accomplishing that feat.
How Many Picks Should You Make?
A contest with the 3 picks I detailed above would pay out $30 on a $5 entry, which means it’s a contest with a 6x multiplier:
You can get your multiplier up to 20x if you want to make 5 picks. Or you could play it safe and do a 2-leg contest for a 3x multiplier. No matter how you choose to play, just make sure you get your picks in before tipoff on Wednesday night. Then sit back and watch what’s sure to be a thrilling night of SEC basketball action!
