Will Wade met with reporters on Wednesday afternoon in advance of McNeese’s opening-round game against Clemson in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.

Wade was asked to comment on rumors that he’s being pursued by NC State for its head coaching vacancy. While most coaches historically have declined to answer such a question in advance of a big game, Wade took a more transparent approach.

Wade confirmed that he’s been in communication with the Wolfpack and said he’s addressed it with his team as well.

Wade has been at McNeese State for the past 2 seasons. He’s led the program to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances as well. He took over at McNeese State after he was fired by LSU in March of 2022 following a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA.

Wade has a .700 winning percentage as a head coach across all his years at Chattanooga, Virginia Commonwealth, LSU and McNeese. He’ll be hoping to advance in March Madness on Thursday for the first time since his 2021 LSU team made the Round of 32.

McNeese State and Clemson will tip off on Thursday afternoon.
