Zachary Davis, who played for South Carolina across the past 3 seasons, made the move to the transfer portal on Friday afternoon. Next season will be his final year in college basketball.
The Orangeburg, South Carolina native started 19 games for the Gamecocks this past season, averaging 8.4 points per game and just under 5 rebounds per game. Standing at 6-7, Davis spent most of his minutes at small forward for South Carolina.
While Davis suffered from some consistency issues at South Carolina, he’s shown flashes of being a strong scorer. Davis dropped 22 points in losses to both Mississippi State and Florida, which owns one of the best defensive units in the sport. On top of being a semi-inconsistent scorer, Davis is a good defender and an underrated rebounder for his size.
One thing is for sure: He’s unlikely to go to a program that prioritizes shooting the 3. Davis struggles to be a threat from range and hit just 28 of his 101 shots from beyond the 3-point arc this season.
South Carolina had a rough season under Lamont Paris, and there’s a lot to address if the Gamecocks want to be competitive at the highest level. The Gamecocks won just 2 SEC games this year and finished with a 12-20 overall record.
