Texas A&M fans have been able to revel in the 52-28 win at South Carolina for nine days now.
The offense didn’t appear to miss Johnny Manziel or Mike Evans at all thanks to a cadre of big-bodied, speedy receivers and a gentleman named Kenny Hill (or is it Trill?).
Kevin Sumlin is getting more credit now than he got during Manziel’s Heisman season as the Aggies performed as well as anyone relative to expectations.
The team, though, needs to focus on tightening its defense, which gave up nearly 476 yards per game in 2013. If Texas A&M has any real championship hopes this season, that won’t be good enough, no matter how potent the offense looks.
But the Aggies don’t have to match Nick Saban’s best defense at Alabama to win games.
Saturday’s game against Lamar should be a coronation for this Texas A&M team, provided they stay healthy and get additional live reps for the young, developing players, particularly on defense.
