Once again, there will be plenty of focus on the quarterback position in the Southeastern Conference for the 2017 recruiting cycle.
So with that, here are five signal callers to keep an eye on who could very well end up signing with SEC programs.
1. Tate Martell, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman (TEXAS A&M COMMIT)
Martell is the next highly-regarded signal caller to head to Aggieland and Texas A&M fans, players and coaches are hoping this one turns out better than Kyler Murray and Kyle Allen, both five-star prospects who transferred out after this past season. Martell has a good arm and can run. He’s been on the radar of colleges for years now. He made an early commit to the Aggies and has stuck with it. Martell is good enough to step in right away and play his first year. He currently is the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.
2. Jake Bentley, Opelika (Ala.)
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Bentley had outstanding junior film and is one of the top quarterback prospects nationally in the 2017 cycle. His father, Bobby Bentley, was named running backs coach at South Carolina in December and the Palmetto State native could be a huge recruiting win for new Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp. Bentley has a big arm and is mobile enough in the pocket to run just about any type of offense on the collegiate level.
3. Lowell Narcisse, St. James (La.)
Narcisse, a former Auburn commit, now is expected to stay in-state and sign with LSU. He’s an elite talent both in the passing game and the quarterback run game who could potentially solidify the position for the Tigers, who have struggled there in recent years.
4. Jake Fromm, Warner-Robins (Ga.) Houston County (ALABAMA COMMIT)
Fromm is 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, has excellent arm strength and is a highly-competitive athlete. The Crimson Tide landed the early commit from the four-star prospect and he fits in well with what Alabama likes to do on offense, particularly given his mobility in the pocket and his toughness. He will need to develop a bit on the college level, but there certainly is ample time to do so in Tuscaloosa given the depth that the Tide has at this position.
5. Bailey Hockman, Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern
Hockman, a former Georgia commit, is expected to end up in the SEC somewhere. He’s the son of a high school coach who throws a nice ball and is mobile in the pocket. The intangibles combined with the talent given him special upside. The four-star prospect will be on the radar of several programs as one of the best available players this cycle in the south at the most important position on the field.
