SEC Network is set to air an hour-long program revealing the 2024 SEC football schedule Wednesday night, an hour that will answer many formatting questions for football fans in the southeast.

Of course, 2024 will be the first year in the SEC for Texas and Oklahoma, who will officially join the conference a year from now on July 1, 2024.

The addition of 2 teams from the Big 12 necessitated some changes to the usual schedule in the SEC. In a controversial adoption on June 1, SEC presidents voted to move forward with an 8-game schedule as opposed to a 9-game slate. Divisions have been done away with as well.

Georgia, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M and Missouri were the teams that reportedly voted for a 9-game schedule. 2024 is the only confirmed season that will feature an 8-game schedule, as it could be voted to change in the future.

2024 will also require each SEC program to play at least one Power 5 program (ACC, B1G, Big 12 and Pac-12) on their schedule. That, or a major independent opponent such as Notre Dame.

Peter Burns reported Wednesday morning that each SEC team will face either Oklahoma or Texas in 2024.

So, some questions remain ahead of Wednesday’s release: Who is going to draw the short straw and which matchups will get nixed as the 2 newcomers join the fray?

Where/How to watch

We can only speculate, but it’s safe to say rivalries such as the Iron Bowl and Egg Bowl will be spared for 2024. Outside of that, you’ll just have to tune in and find out.

The 2024 SEC schedule release will be aired on SEC Network Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET, labeled as a special edition of SEC Now.
