27 SEC players named to Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list

The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced its Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list today which included 88 defensive players from all 10 FBS conferences. The award is given to the top defensive player in the country.

The list features three returning players from the FWAA All-American first-team, which includes Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett.

The Southeastern Conference separated itself with 27 representatives. The Big Ten and Pac-12 followed behind with 13 apiece, while the ACC had 11 and Big 12 had 10 players on the list.

At the top of the SEC (and the entire country) on the watch list were Alabama and LSU with five apiece, while Florida and Tennessee followed with three players from their respective school.

Auburn, Ole Miss and Texas A&M each had two players on the list, while Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri and Vanderbilt each have one player on the list.

Alabama: Jonathan Allen (DE), Reuben Foster (LB), Marlon Humphrey (DB), Eddie Jackson (DB) and Tim Williams (LB)
LSU: Jamal Adams (DB), Kendell Beckwith (LB), Davon Godchaux (DT), Lewis Neal (DE) and Tre’Davious White (DB)
Florida: Jarrad Davis (LB), Marcus Maye (DB) and Jalen Tabor (DB)
Tennessee: Derek Barnett (DE), Jalen Reeves-Maybin (LB) and Cameron Sutton (DB)
Auburn: Montravious Adams (DT) and Carl Lawson (DE)
Ole Miss: Tony Conner (DB) and Marquis Haynes (DE)
Texas A&M: Myles Garrett (DE) and Daeshon Hall (DE)
Arkansas: Deatrich Wise Jr. (DE)
Georgia: Lorenzo Carter (LB)
Mississippi State: Richie Brown (LB)
Missouri: Charles Harris (DE)
Vanderbilt: Zach Cunningham (LB)

On Nov. 17, five Nagurski finalists will be named and then on Dec. 5, the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy will be named at the annual Trophy Banquet in Charlotte, N.C.
