Three-star wide receiver prospect Lawrence Cager announced his commitment to Miami on Saturday at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

A native of Towson, Md., Cager chose the Hurricanes over Alabama, Georgia and Virginia Tech.

At 6-foot-5, 202-pounds, Cager is the seventh-rated player in the state of Maryland. He doesn’t have blazing speed, but has supreme route-running ability and good ball skills. Cager’s 6-foot-5 frame will benefit him, able to shield defenders. As a junior in 2013, Cager caught 50 passes for 580 yards and seven touchdowns.

Cager — a standout track athlete — registered a 6-foot-10 high jump. He’s been compared to former Tennessee wideout Justin Hunter.

Cagers commitment to Miami is somewhat of a surprise. The Crimson Tide were believed to be the favorite, as recently as Friday. Cager said he had cultivated great relationships with Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and wide receivers coach Billy Napier.

The Maryland native told NBC he made his decision prior to kickoff Saturday afternoon.

The Calvert Hall College wideout had offers from South Carolina, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky.
