Four-star wide receiver prospect Sam Bruce has been committed to the Miami Hurricanes since July, but the 5-foot-9, 183-pound prospect from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will take official visits to three SEC programs before putting his name to a letter of intent on national signing day, Feb. 3, 2016.

Bruce, the nephew of former NFL wide receiver Isaac Bruce, has scheduled official visits to South Carolina on Jan. 15 and Alabama on Jan. 22 and says that he’ll likely take a mid-week official visit to Florida in January as well.

“Somehow I will fit it in,” Bruce said of his planned official visit to Florida. “I have to go to Florida. It’s just a point of (getting) it in. I don’t have that much time now.”

Bruce is still committed to Miami, however, and Hurricanes wide receivers coach Kevin Beard was in attendance to watch Bruce help St. Thomas Aquinas win its second consecutive 7A state championship and ninth title overall Saturday.

Whether Beard stays with the Hurricanes is a matter of debate as it appears new Miami head coach Mark Richt would like to bring in Bryan McClendon, currently Georgia’ interim head coach and wide receivers coach. Bruce is hoping Beard is kept on the Miami staff and called the coach a “father figure.”

When asked about Miami’s of hiring of Richt, Bruce spoke glowingly of the move.

“It’s a phenomenal hire,” Bruce said. “He did some exceptional things at Georgia and I’m hoping he’s going to bring that to the University of Miami.”

Bruce hasn’t spoken to Richt yet but said he spoke with him while Georgia was recruiting him and said Richt was a “cool dude.”

For months it’s been rumored that Bruce would eventually flip to Florida but after leading Aquinas team to a 45-10 win against Viera in the Florida Class 7A football championship game Bruce sounded like a solid commit.

“We’ve had some guys de-commit, but I tell Michael Irvin all of the time we’re going to roll with who we have,” Bruce said.

As for the rumors Bruce said that’s just a lot of internet talk.

“These guys on the internet … they say whatever they want,” Bruce said. “They have no filter. They say whatever they want to say. I ignore them.”
