The Florida Gators continue to roll in the SEC. For Florida (7-1, 5-1 SEC) a win against Vanderbilt on Saturday would secure the SEC East championship.
Let’s look at five probable impact players for the Gators on Saturday.
1. RT Fred Johnson: Florida enters the game with two key injuries on the offensive line. Starting LT David Sharpe and LG Martez Ivey suffered injuries in the win over Georgia. With both questionable against Vanderbilt, Jim McElwain said RT Mason Halter would most likely rotate to left tackle, and true freshman Fred Johnson would fill the void at right tackle. It would be Johnson’s first career start.
2. RB Kelvin Taylor: McElwain’s offense is built on running the ball. Taylor broke out against Georgia with 121 yards and two touchdowns. Vanderbilt boasts the No. 18 rush defense in the country, allowing just 3.45 yards per carry.
3. RB Jordan Scarlett: With Taylor drawing attention, Scarlett provides a nice change of pace in the Gators backfield. Last week, he rushed for 96 yards, including a 60-yard run that set up one of Taylor’s touchdowns.
4. WR Antonio Callaway: Callaway is coming off two consecutive games with more than 100 yards. Treon Harris has developed chemistry with Callaway, who provides a big-play threat. Houston receiver Chance Allen had a solid game in the rout of Vanderbilt last weeek.
5. DL Jonathan Bullard: Bullard is a big reason Florida is the No. 15 team in the nation against the run. A first-round NFL talent, he clogs running lanes and has 4.5 sacks. Bullard should cause problems for Vanderbilt RB Ralph Webb, who only averages 3.9 yards per carry with only one 100-yard performance this season.
