On Nov. 30, Terrence Lewis announced that he had decommitted from Tennessee. However, it appears there’s a decent chance he could end up joining the Vols after all.

Lewis, a 5-star linebacker from Miami Central High School in Miami, announced on Monday that he has cut his list of colleges to two — Tennessee and Maryland. The 247Sports Crystal Ball was predicting Lewis to go to Auburn, but the Tigers fired head coach Gus Malzahn on Sunday, which could have affected his decision not to go there.

Lewis is the No. 1 inside linebacker and No. 16 overall recruit in the 2021 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He also tweeted that he’ll be announcing his decision between the Vols and Terrapins on Jan. 2.

Tennessee has the No. 15-ranked 2021 class in the nation, per the 247Sports team rankings. However, it doesn’t have any 5-star commits after Lewis decided to reopen his recruitment. But that could change if he recommits to the Vols.

Maryland also doesn’t have any 5-star commits in its 2021 class, which is ranked No. 25. So, it would be a huge get for the Terps if they’re able to beat out the Vols for Lewis’ commitment.

Lewis, who is 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, first committed to Tennessee on April 30 before decommitting seven months later.
