Week 5 of college football is here! We’ve got 50 things on our mind that we have to bounce off you entering this week’s action. Enjoy!
- Isn’t it a little unfair that the worst rushing defense out of 128 FBS teams (Eastern Michigan, 373 yards allowed per game) just so happens to face Leonard Fournette this week?
- Any chance Eastern Michigan tries to make another smashing entrance?
- If LSU wanted to intimidate them, would it just set up a similar wall and have Fournette run through it?
- Which running back tandem will stand out more when No. 13 Alabama visits No. 8 Georgia: Derrick Henry/Kenyan Drake or Nick Chubb/Sony Michel?
- Don’t you get the sense that Saturday’s matchup between No. 21 Mississippi State and No. 14 Texas A&M is going to be a classic?
- Is Vanderbilt really on a three-game losing streak against Middle Tennessee?
- Can Auburn really be a 20-point favorite against anybody this season?
- Has Vegas watched any Auburn game this season?
- Does Vegas know about this speed demon?
- Think Vols fans are upset? Yesterday, someone flew a plane above Nippert Stadium as Miami visited Cincinnati with a banner that read, “I flew 1,124 miles just to say #FIREALGOLDEN.” The Hurricanes lost 34-23.
- What are the chances we might see two planes with similar messages flying above Neyland Stadium on Saturday?
- You think Bret Bielema found any solace in seeing Kliff Kingsbury and Texas Tech’s heartbreaking 55-52 loss to TCU last week?
- On that note, the over/under for this week’s Texas Tech-Baylor game is 87.5. Shouldn’t that be 187.5?
- How loud do you think The Swamp is going to be this week before the No. 3 Rebels visit the No. 25 Gators, who are ranked for the first time since October 2013?
- Who wins the battle between Vernon Hargreaves III and Laquon Treadwell?
- Should the Gators even bother playing on first, second or third downs?
- Anybody else not a fan of Ole Miss’ powder blue helmets?
- How much better does Michigan’s 24-17 season-opening loss to No. 10 Utah look after the Utes demolished the Ducks 62-20 last week?
- Can Missouri win the battle of true freshman QBs and beat South Carolina to stay alive in the SEC East race?
- Should we be impressed or unimpressed that Alabama only lost to Ole Miss by six points despite five turnovers? I still wonder that.
- All of Vanderbilt’s toughest remaining games are in each of their last four games of the season (at Florida, vs. Kentucky, vs. Texas A&M, at Tennessee). Will the Commodores throw a wrench in someone’s SEC title hopes this season?
- Kelvin Taylor has accounted for half (3 of 6) of the Gators’ touchdowns over the last two weeks, and rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s win over the Vols. You think he’s out of Jim McElwain’s doghouse?
- Les Miles is upset with the team’s 9.3 penalties per game, which is tied for 117th in the FBS, but he’s got to be ecstatic that LSU is the only school in the country not to turn it over yet, right?
- Will Brandon Harris get a chance to air it out against Eastern Michigan?
- Is Texas A&M freshman WR Christian Kirk the SEC’s most underrated offensive player?
- Did anyone think UCLA-Arizona and Utah-Oregon would be complete blowouts last week?
- And that the road teams would be the ones dominating?
- How important is No. 12 Clemson’s game against No. 6 Notre Dame (not just for Clemson but the ACC), considering the Tigers only play one more opponent currently ranked the rest of the way (No. 11 Florida State)?
- What will prevail in Neyland Stadium? Brandon Allen’s arm or Josh Dobbs’ legs?
- Dak Prescott vs Kyle Allen. Is that the best QB matchup we’ll see the rest of the season until maybe Prescott vs. Chad Kelly in the last week?
- Does Michigan State finally cover this week vs. Purdue (-21.5)? The Spartans have yet to do so this season.
- ESPN college football analyst Trevor Matich has two SEC teams in the playoff right now (No. 1 Ole Miss and No. 2 LSU). What’s the chances of two teams from the same division making it in?
- Can the real Volunteers please stand up? Maybe it comes down to whether they have DirecTV or cable?
- How does Alabama perform in its first true road game of the season while basically facing an elimination game for the SEC title game?
- How does Georgia perform against its first real test this season?
- Alabama is 3 of 7 kicking field goals this season, and its field goal percentage of 42.9% is tied for 121st in the FBS. Will that play a factor in Athens?
- The Tide is struggling to make field goals. What’s new?
- Does Kevin Sumlin fall to 0-7 against nationally ranked opponents at home?
- How many times will you flip back and forth between Ole Miss-Florida and Mississippi State-Texas A&M on Saturday night?
- Can you spell “Nkemdiche”? Ah I gave it away.
- Texas is 1-3 with games at No. 4 TCU and vs. No. 14 Oklahoma over the next two weeks. If the Longhorns fall to 1-5, do they rebound to win five of their last six to be bowl-eligible?
- Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky have bad blood after what’s taken place this offseason. Does that play a factor in this week’s game between the Wildcats and Colonels?
- Who is the best team in the state of Texas right now: No. 4 TCU, No. 5 Baylor or No. 14 Texas A&M?
- Why is it even a question whether a player in Leonard Fournette’s position should sit out his junior season to protect his investment? How would he help LSU on the sidelines next season? Let’s hope players in that spot think of their teammates.
- Is Alabama really in danger of being out of the SEC picture by the first week of October for the first time since Nick Saban’s debut in Tuscaloosa in 2007?
- Utah coach Kyle Whittingham outcoached Oregon’s Mark Helfrich with QB Travis Wilson nursing a sore shoulder. Did he just earn himself a blank check from AD Chris Hill?
- Here’s the weekly question. Can Nick Chubb extend his streak of 100-yard rushing games? This week, he’s looking to stretch it to 13, which would technically break Herschel Walker’s record of 12 in the record books. However, it’s worth noting that Walker recorded a 13th straight in the 1981 Sugar Bowl, but bowl stats didn’t count at the time.
- Indiana is on a five-game winning streak. Believe it or not, that’s the Hoosiers’ longest since 1987! Why does No. 1 Ohio State have to come and ruin the fun in Bloomington?
- Will Sony Michel or Kenyan Drake make more of an impact than either Nick Chubb or Derrick Henry on Saturday?
- Is there anything better than SEC football?
