Alabama is not a school that most college football fans have sympathy for. After all, the Tide claim 18 national titles and have been the golden standard in college football for most of the last 2 decades.

That’s why it wasn’t surprising to see Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne get mocked on social media after calling for NIL donations. The veteran AD put out a lengthy statement encouraging fans to purchase from the “Yea Alabama” collective to support the student-athletes. Alabama is known for having one of the largest and most passionate fanbases in sports, so it’s surprising that the AD felt the need to go this route.

Naturally, non-Alabama fans filled the replies with insults and comments mocking the AD for “begging.”

Let’s take a look at some of the best replies to Byrne’s statement.

It’s safe to assume that Byrne expected a more positive response to his post. However, fans love to kick rival teams when they’re down, so “begging” for money AND missing the College Football Playoff has given Alabama haters plenty of material.

On the field, Byrne’s Tide will end their season in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Michigan on New Year’s Eve at noon ET.
