Alabama assistant set to face Louisiana-Lafeyette staff he was briefly on until Nick Saban came calling

Alabama secondary coach Karl Scott will be taking the field Saturday against a coach he almost worked for.
Billy Napier, the head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette, tried to hire Scott as his defensive coordinator.
And Scott, then at Texas Tech, had agreed.
But that was before Nick Saban came calling, and in January, Scott was added to the Crimson Tide’s staff.
“To be honest with you, when I called about him to find out about him, I didn’t really know he even left Texas Tech,” Saban said, according to AL.com.
“So I didn’t even know for sure he was at UL-L… He had really good recommendations as a person, as a teacher, as a recruiter, as a coach where he’s been in the past.”
After Scott joined Alabama’s staff, Napier replaced him with Rob Roberts, who came to the Ragin’ Cajuns after coaching at Southeastern Louisiana.
“We were able to work it out contractually and for me I am excited about what I was able to do with that position when Karl left,” Napier told reporters in April.
“..It was a scenario where the guy has got the opportunity to go work for — most people would say — the best coach in college football,” Napier continued.
”I certainly would say that. I am not going to stand in the way. I am excited to watch Karl and his development, and there is certainly is no better place to do it than at Alabama and with Coach Saban.”
Alabama, which sits atop the AP Poll at No. 1, is set to kick off against Louisiana Lafayette at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
