Alabama and Auburn players had to be separated late in the third quarter after a brief skirmish developed on the sidelines.
The scuffle happened after an Auburn incomplete pass. Alabama’s DeVonte Smith and Auburn’s KeAndre Lambert-Smith were engaged on the play and continued their battle onto the Auburn sidelines well past the conclusion of the play.
The incident left players from both teams fuming on the Auburn sideline. Members of Alabama’s coaching staff ultimately had to make the trek across the field to help break it up.

In the end, Smith and Malachi Moore were both assessed unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for Alabama, although only 1 of those fouls were enforced with a 15-yard penalty. No Auburn players received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty as a result of the fracas.
ESPN rules analyst Bill LeMonnier was critical of the decision to not penalize any Auburn players for their role in incident.
Alabama is hoping to moving to 9-3 on the season with a win. Meanwhile, Auburn has to win this game in order to reach bowl eligibility in 2024.
