While it’s not a starter, Alabama’s defensive depth took a small hit on Saturday.
Freshman cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis suffered a season-ending injury in pregame warmups on Saturday, according to AL.com. The injury is a torn knee ligament.
Armour-Davis is a true freshman out of Mobile, Alabama, and he was a 4-star recruit as the No. 13 cornerback in the country in the Class of 2018, per 247Sports Composite Rankings. While Armour-Davis was not expected to get significant playing time this season, it is one less player on a defense that Nick Saban has already said does not have as much depth as in previous seasons.
Armour-Davis reportedly has performed well in the offseason since signing with the Crimson Tide, and he was likely going to get playing time in a few games down the stretch, including the game on Saturday against Arkansas State.
Alabama went on to dominate the Red Wolves, 57-7 on Saturday. It remains to be seen if Alabama’s defensive depth takes any more casualties.
