It’s pretty much a lock that Alabama will remain No. 1 in the AP and Coaches polls when they’re released on Sunday.
The Crimson Tide has held those slots all season and is fresh off a 63-14 destruction of Southern Miss on Sunday night.
Georgia, however, has continued to impress as well, and the computers are loving what the Bulldogs are doing on the field.
Kirby Smart’s team absolutely demolished Vanderbilt on the road Saturday, 62-0. As a result, ESPN’s computer-generated Power Index Rankings (PFI) jumped Georgia past Alabama and into the No. 1 spot.
Through 4 games this season, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 168-23, and the defense has looked historically dominant.
Of course, there are plenty of big games remaining on the schedule for both Alabama and Georgia, starting next Saturday with the Crimson Tide playing host to Ole Miss and the Bulldogs entertaining red-hot Arkansas.
For now, however, let the debate rage on about who’s No. 1.
