Alabama started their hunt for a national title with a strong 24-7 performance against No. 3 Florida State Saturday evening.
The Crimson Tide held the Seminoles to just 40 yards rushing while blocking a punt and a field goal to go along with three Seminole turnovers. Alabama looked every bit the part of No. 1 in the nation, and the coaching staff selected seven players for player of the week honors. The school announced the players Monday morning.
RB Damien Harris and WR Calvin Ridley were the offensive selections for player of the week. Harris was a steady presence for the Tide and led the team with 73 yards and a TD on nine carries. Ridley was clearly QB Jalen Hurts’ favorite target as he was the only Tide receiver with multiple receptions. Ridley finished the night with seven receptions for 82 yards and a TD.
LB Shaun Dion Hamilton and DB Levi Wallace were the defensive selections for player of the week.
Special teams was certainly a bright spot for Alabama Saturday, and four players from the unit were named players of the week. Long snapper Thomas Fletcher, DB Keaton Anderson, DB Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Harris were all chosen for the honor. Fitzpatrick and Harris contributed the blocked FG and blocked punt for the Tide.
