Alabama atop the latest S&P ratings, 2 SEC teams join Crimson Tide in Top 10

Alabama was the lone Top 4 team to avoid upset over the weekend, dominating Mississippi State in a 51-3 victory. As a result, the Crimson Tide are now back on top of Football Outsiders’ S&P ratings.
The ratings take into account several different factors, and here is an idea of what they look for.
“The components for S&P+ reflect opponent-adjusted components of four of what Bill Connelly has deemed the Five Factors of college football: efficiency, explosiveness, field position, and finishing drives. (A fifth factor, turnovers, is informed marginally by sack rates, the only quality-based statistic that has a consistent relationship with turnover margins.)”
Last week, Alabama was behind only Michigan and held a rating of 32.4. Michigan’s stunning loss at Iowa erased its perfect record and dropped them below the Crimson Tide, which now have a score of 34.0.
LSU remained inside of the Top 10 this week, coming in at the No. 6 spot, after running away from Arkansas on Saturday night. Despite losing on the road to Georgia, Auburn stayed within the Top 10 as well and resides at No. 9.
