Alabama freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts was named to the Manning Award Watch List Wednesday.
Hurts took over as Alabama’s quarterback during the Tide’s season opener and has started in all of the last five games. The true freshman has thrown for 1,242 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions on 97 of 152 passing and rushed for 296 yards and five touchdowns on 62 attempts.
The Tide currently ranks No. 4 in total offense and No. 5 in passing offense among SEC teams.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that also includes candidates’ bowl game performances in its balloting and is presented after the bowl season.
