With Alabama’s season opener approaching, news came out about the starting QB. A report from ESPN’s Chris Low indicated that the Crimson Tide have made a decision.
The starting quarterback for the season opener against MTSU will be Jalen Milroe, according to Low.
Milroe has taken a lot of the first-team reps and been competing with Ty Simpson, Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner, and Dylan Lonergan.
Jalen Milroe will start at QB for @AlabamaFTBL in Saturday’s opener against Middle Tennessee State, sources tell ESPN. Milroe has taken most of the first-team reps this preseason while competing with Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner and freshmen Ty Simpson and Dylan Lonergan.

Milroe was a former 4-star QB from the 2021 class out of Katy, Texas. He was the No. 13 QB and No. 14 prospect from Texas, per the 247Sports Composite.
Milroe backed up Bryce Young last season and played in eight games. From those games he had 297 yards passing with 6 total touchdowns.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Nick Saban decides to play multiple QBs against the Blue Raiders, however. There will be a new era at starting quarterback in Tuscaloosa this fall regardless.
Milroe will lead the offense against the Blue Raiders on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
