Alabama reveals maximum capacity following $107 million renovation

This season, only a limited number of fans will be allowed inside Bryant-Denny Stadium for Alabama football games. But when the day arrives that it again can be filled to capacity, it’s going to be packed, even after the latest offseason renovations.

According to Michael Casagrande of AL.com, Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne said that the new capacity for Bryant-Denny Stadium is 100,077 following $107 million renovations, which impacted club and luxury seating. That number is down from the previous capacity of 101,821, but it’s still one of the largest in college football.

Byrne also said the stadium will allow “just under 20,000 fans” this season, per Casagrande, as part of the social-distancing requirements caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bryant-Denny Stadium has been open since 1929 and has been expanded and renovated several times during its lifetime. The latest renovations to the luxury seating began after the final home game of the 2019 season.

Only six college football stadiums have a larger capacity — Michigan’s Michigan Stadium (107,601), Penn State’s Beaver Stadium (106,572), Ohio State’s Ohio Stadium (102,780), Texas A&M’s Kyle Stadium (102,733), Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium (102,455) and LSU’s Tiger Stadium (102,321).

Alabama will play its first home game of the season against Texas A&M on Oct. 3.

But first, the Crimson Tide open the 2020 campaign on the road. Alabama and Missouri are set to kick off Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
