Angel Reese and LSU won the national championship game over Iowa and Caitlin Clark Sunday, earning their first title in school history. But following the win, most of the discourse has followed a few controversial elements surrounding Reese, Clark and even the First Lady, Jill Biden.

Essentially, Biden suggested both LSU and Iowa come to the White House, despite tradition saying only the winners take the trip to D.C. every spring. This sparked understandable outrage online and within the LSU fanbase especially. Winners go to the White House, runners-up do not.

Both Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder and star guard Caitlin Clark have since rejected the idea, prompting an apology from Biden. But Reese wasn’t done with the First Lady’s comments.

On Tuesday, Reese joined the crew at the “I am Athlete” podcast and explained her reasoning behind rejecting Biden’s comments. She also floated an alternative option for and LSU presidential visit:

“If we were to lose, we would not be getting invited to the White House,” Reese said. “I remember she made a comment about both teams should be invited because it’s sportsmanship. And I’m like, ‘Are you saying that stuff because of what I did?’ Stuff like that, it bothers me. You are a woman at the end of the day and you’re supposed to be standing behind us before anything… I don’t accept the (apology), I said what I said. You can’t go back on certain things that you say. I mean, you felt like they should’ve came because of sportsmanship, right? They can have that spotlight. We’ll go to the Obamas. We’ll see Michelle.”

Reese is only a sophomore and is not eligible for the WNBA Draft. She will be back next season with the Tigers looking to win a 2nd straight national title.
