Anthony Edwards made a big statement in the first half of Minnesota’s game against Oklahoma City on Thursday night.
Midway through the first quarter, Edwards got the ball on the wing with a chance to make something happen. He immediately drove left, blowing right past Aaron Wiggins, and then flew over Chet Holmgren at the summit for one of the best dunks you’ll see in the NBA all season.
Here’s a clip:
Holmgren is playing in his 3rd game since returning from an extended absence due to injury, but it’s still rare to see a shot blocker of his caliber get dunked on like Edwards managed there. Holmgren came into the night averaging 2.9 blocks per game.
Edwards has always been recognized as one of the league’s best in-game dunkers, but this one will surely be memorable even for him. It was a solid first half overall for Edwards, who scored 10 points and also contributed 6 rebounds and 3 assists while leading the Wolves to an 8-point lead over No. 1-seeded Oklahoma City.
Edwards is averaging a career-high 27.5 points per game this season. After Thursday night’s game, he will head to the Bay Area to play in his 3rd-career All-Star game. The 23-year-old is in his 5th season since coming out of Georgia as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
