Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson, who led one of the craziest coaching searches in college football this season, recently commented on another wild search.
The one that took place in Knoxville may have been the most insane search of all time. Of course, the one in Tempe was quite crazy itself.
But Anderson apparently thought Tennessee’s was much worse — and he called out Volunteers AD Phillip Fulmer for it.
“The athletic department there (at Tennessee) is perceived there as a cluster,” Anderson said. “Their athletic director, now Phil Fulmer, in the athletic director’s world is a pariah. It is not a good situation.”
Anderson himself is a former NFL executive/agent with no previous experience as an AD, according to a report from CBS Sports. Anderson hired ESPN analyst Herm Edwards — one of his former clients — as the Sun Devils’ head coach.
Anderson seemed to defend his own coaching search in the CBS report. He recognized that many Arizona State fans didn’t agree with his decision to hire Edwards.
