What Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said on his radio show

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema was back at the Catfish Hole on Thursday night, hosting his weekly radio show.

Coming off a huge and wild win, the questions and answers produced one of the more laid back interviews of the season.

After tough losses to Toledo and Texas Tech to begin 2015, the Razorbacks got their biggest win of the season in a 4-OT game against Auburn last week. It’s safe to say Bielema and the reporters came into the radio show with all smiles.

“Some players took big steps,” Bielema said in his opening statement. “I think in particular the offensive line in the second, third, and fourth overtime handled the Auburn defensive line at will.”

Arkansas ran for 228 yards, 51 more than Auburn on three fewer attempts, but the running game wasn’t the only thing clicking.

Bielema also praised SEC Freshman of the Week Dre Greenlaw, the linebacker who finished with a career-high 16 tackles.

“You don’t just make 16 tackles by accident,” Bielema said. “He’s only just scratched the surface what he can do.”

It wasn’t all reminiscing on last week’s victory, however, as the team already is looking ahead to Tennessee-Martin (5-2) Saturday.

“You may remember them a couple years back they were able to beat Memphis. Very well coached,” Bielema said. “I think our guys are ready to play football, SEC or non-conference. … Every game matters.”

Arkansas plays Tennessee-Martin at 4 p.m., EST, in a game that could bring the Razorbacks back to .500 for the first time since Week 2.

Looking even further ahead, Bielema discussed the recently-released 2016 schedule.

Arkansas’ is tough, with a non-conference game at TCU in Week 2.

“This is the first time in Arkansas history that four SEC teams will play in Arkansas.” Unfortunately, all four of the teams, Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, and LSU, are currently ranked,” he said.

One of the most noteworthy parts of the show is the fact that Arkansas’s leading rusher RB Alex Collins, who was late to a team meeting last week, wasn’t mentioned once.

Perhaps the junior is still in Bielema’s dog house.
