Arkansas running back Braylen Russell has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal, per reports. It’s been an up-and-down day for Russell and the Razorbacks as the RB’s name was officially in the portal this afternoon.

Now, Arkansas reporter Trey Biddy is confirming that Russell will be back with the Razorbacks in 2025. Russell ended up only being in the transfer portal for a couple of hours before removing his name.

Russell is a true freshman in 2024 and received the third-most carries of any Arkansas running back. The speedy RB carried the ball 47 times for 304 yards and 2 touchdowns this season. Russell also caught 3 passes for 18 yards in his first college season.

Keeping Russell in town is good news for the Razorbacks. The team has had 22 players enter the transfer portal since the beginning of December. Defensive back TJ Metcalf is the most notable name, entering the portal after starting in 11 games for the Razorbacks in 2024.

Before coming to Fayetteville, Russell starred for Benton High School in Benton, AR. He was rated as a 4-star prospect per the 247Sports Composite ranking and was the No. 25 RB and No. 4 prospect out of Arkansas. Arkansas beat out Tennessee, Baylor, and others for the talented in-state prospect.

Russell’s return is even more important following the news that lead tailback Ja’Quinden Jackson will enter the 2025 NFL Draft. Russell and Rashod Dubinion will now be the top returning options at the position for the Razorbacks.

The portal will stay open through Dec. 28. The portal will then remain closed until April, with an exception being made for head coaching changes.
