Army defeated Navy 17-11 on Saturday evening to officially cap the 2023 college football regular season.

The Midshipmen had a chance to tie the game in the closing moments. Facing 3rd and goal and a 17-9 deficit, Navy completed a pass inside the 2-yard line. However, the receiver was unable to get out of bounds and Navy was out of timeouts.

The resulting sequence was 4th-down try from the 2-yard line with the clock running down below 10 seconds. Army came up with a goal-line stand (which was later upheld by replay) to effectively end the game.

Here’s a replay of the sequence:

With just 3 seconds left on the clock after the turnover on downs, Army ended the game by taking a safety to make it 17-11 in favor of the Black Knights.

Army’s defense made big plays all afternoon to help secure this win. The Black Knights got to 17 points thanks to a 44-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Kalib Fortner.

This is Army’s 2nd consecutive win over Navy in this rivalry. It’s the first time either program has won back-to-back games in this series since Navy won 3 in a row from 2016-18.
