Army head coach Jeff Monken is not concerned in the least about Navy, despite the fact both service academies are ranked among the best in the nation for the first time in multiple decades.

Monken was recently asked about one of his biggest rivals and chose to take a shot at them. He also indicated that his team is focused on the upcoming matchup against East Carolina on Oct. 19.

Navy and Army do not face each other until Dec. 14, and it’s shaping up to be an even more interesting game than it usually is yearly. In fact, there’s a chance the 2 sides face each other multiple times this year.

As members of the AAC, there is a chance Navy and Army meet for the AAC Championship Game on Dec. 6, a week before their storied rivalry series is played. That’s a unique factor that could come into play if both programs keep winning, but Monken doesn’t sound worried.

“Do they still have a football program at that school?,” Monken asked. “We’re gonna worry about this game this weekend. It’s the only one we can do anything about and East Carolina’s got a good football team, well coached team. And I assure you that it’s the only game we’re concerning ourselves with right now.”

Army remains undefeated for the time being, opening the season at 6-0 after recording an overall record of 6-6 or the past two seasons. Monken and Army are 6-4 against the Midshipmen and will look to extend that to a 7-4 record in the all-time series when the time comes for that game.
