Ashton Jeanty officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft on Tuesday evening, saying goodbye to Boise State after a standout 2024 season.
“The opportunity to play in the NFL is a dream of mine,” Jeanty wrote in the post on social media. “I’m proud to represent Boise State and all of those who have helped me along the way at the next level.”
The season the Broncos’ running back put together in 2024 was nothing short of outstanding, as he went from a darkhorse who largely flew under the radar to a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. Despite the fact he comes from a smaller program, the numbers he put up and the records he set were on par with some of the greatest running backs in recent history.
Jeanty finished out the season with 2,601 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns, averaging 7 yards per rushing attempt on 374 total carries as he saw action in 14 games.
That rushing total is nothing short of historical, good for the second-highest in a season in the history of the FBS. The only player who has surpassed him in that category and still holds onto the record is one of the greatest players of all time, all positions considered. Barry Sanders, in 1998, recorded 2,628 yards.
There are mixed opinions as to where Jeanty will land in the 2025 NFL Draft, but barring anything unforeseen, he will be an early first-round selection. Mel Kiper Jr. had Jeanty listed seventh overall on his latest big board for ESPN.
