An Atlanta Falcons assistant coach was injured before the game in an accidental collision with a Saints player.

Defensive coordinator Dean Pees was down on the field for several minutes before finally being carted off. The Falcons released a statement saying that Pees is “stable, alert, and responsive,” and will be taken to the hospital for testing.

The collision was unintentional and reportedly involved a kick returner for the Saints.

Pees, who is 73 years of age, has been the Falcons’ defensive coordinator since 2021. Pees has coached in the NFL since the 2004 season and held jobs with the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, and Tennessee Titans before joining the Falcons.

Linebackers coach Frank Bush will reportedly call defensive plays in Pees’ absence.
