Auburn adds All-SWAC DL James Ash via transfer portal

After 3 seasons in the SWAC, James Ash is ready to return to the Power 4 ranks.
Ash is the newest portal commitment for Auburn. The 6-4, 280-pound Florida A&M transfer defensive lineman announced his plans to play for Hugh Freeze on Monday.

It’s the second transfer of Ash’s career. His first move was going from the ACC to the SWAC. Now, Ash is returning to the Power 4 ranks, with a solid resume.
Wake Forest signed Ash as part of its 2020 recruiting class. Ash spent the past 3 seasons at FAMU.
Ash is coming off the best season of his college career. In 2024, Ash recorded 44 total tackles with 17 solo stops, 3.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks and 2 QB hurries to earn All-SWAC second-team recognition. He had 4 games with 5 tackles or more.
In 2023, Ash participated in 13 games. He finished the year with 32 tackles, including 6 for loss.
Ash played in 9 games over the 2022 season. He finished with 6 total tackles, including 1.5 TFLs.
